PINL Backs Ogoni Oil Resumption, Decries $226bn Loss

Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) has expressed support for the resumption of oil production in Ogoniland, citing massive economic losses from decades of inactivity.

The company revealed that Nigeria has lost an estimated $226 billion over 32 years due to the shutdown of oil operations in the area.

PINL noted that restarting production would not only boost national revenue but also create jobs and stimulate economic development in the region.

It emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders, including host communities, government, and oil companies, to ensure a smooth and sustainable resumption process.

The firm also called for adequate environmental safeguards and community engagement to address longstanding concerns associated with oil exploration in Ogoniland.

Industry analysts say the move could significantly enhance Nigeria’s oil output if properly managed, while also helping to revitalise the local economy.

However, they cautioned that issues around environmental remediation and community trust must be carefully handled to avoid renewed tensions.

The development has reignited discussions on balancing economic benefits with environmental responsibility in Nigeria’s oil sector.
