Ekiti 2026: PDP Candidate Rejects ‘Coronation’ Narrative, Promises Tough Contest
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Oluwole Oluyede, has dismissed claims that the 2026 governorship election will be a mere “coronation” for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting the race will be fiercely competitive.
Oluyede made the remarks while addressing supporters and party stakeholders, pushing back against suggestions from political opponents that the APC already has a clear path to victory in the state. He emphasized that Ekiti voters are politically aware and will make their choices based on performance, credibility, and the needs of the people.
According to him, the Peoples Democratic Party is fully prepared to challenge the status quo, adding that the election will reflect democratic principles rather than predetermined outcomes.
“We are not in this race to validate anyone’s assumptions,” Oluyede said. “Ekiti people will decide their future through the ballot, and it will not be handed to any party on a platter.”
He also called on residents to remain engaged in the democratic process, urging them to participate actively and reject voter apathy. The PDP candidate further assured supporters of a robust campaign focused on governance issues, economic development, and improved welfare for citizens.
Political observers say the Ekiti 2026 election is shaping up to be a closely watched contest, with both major parties expected to intensify mobilization efforts in the coming months.
