I Never Declared to Contest Presidency – Datti Baba-Ahmed

Former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, has clarified that he has not declared an intention to contest the presidency, dismissing media reports suggesting otherwise as a misinterpretation of his comments.

Baba-Ahmed made the clarification amid speculations triggered by recent public statements in which he spoke about Nigeria’s leadership and the future of the Labour Party. According to him, his remarks were taken out of context and wrongly presented as a declaration of presidential ambition.

“I have not declared to run for the presidency. At no point did I make such an announcement,” Baba-Ahmed said, stressing that discussions about good governance and national direction should not be misconstrued as political ambition.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of the Labour Party, noting that his focus remains on contributing to national discourse, party building and promoting policies that advance democracy and good governance.

Baba-Ahmed also urged the media to exercise caution and accuracy in reporting political statements, warning that misinformation could mislead the public and create unnecessary political tension.

The clarification comes amid growing political activities and early speculations ahead of future elections, with several political figures being linked to potential presidential ambitions.

Baba-Ahmed reiterated that any decision regarding future political contests would be communicated clearly and formally when the time is right.
