Tottenham posted on their official Twitter account: “Kick-off is DELAYED until 4.15pm as the @ManUtd team bus is stuck in traffic.”
Spurs went into the mouthwatering clash looking to keep their title hopes alive while United are attempting to keep their Champions League charge on course, and of course they achieved it as they defeated Manchester United 3-0.
United’s bus finally arrived at 3.45pm, more than an hour late given opposition teams routinely drive into White Hart Lane an hour and 20 minutes before kick-off.
The further delay meant kick-off had to be put back even further, with Tottenham informing fans on Twitter: “@ManUtd have arrived so kick-off is confirmed as 4.30pm.”
While Spurs warmed up as usual before the game, United’s half of the pitch remained empty until 4.10pm when the players finally emerged 20 minutes before the match was scheduled to start.
The preparation was far from ideal for the Red Devils, who sat fifth in the table, four points behind Manchester City with a game in hand.
