WIKE REMAINS AN ASSET TO APC, SHOULDN’T BE EMBARRASSED — LAWMAKER

A federal lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as an asset to the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite his continued membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Jibrin urged members of the APC to avoid making public statements or taking actions that could embarrass Wike, saying the former Rivers State governor has contributed significantly to the political strength of the ruling party.

The lawmaker said Wike’s role in the current political landscape should be recognised, particularly given his decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration despite belonging to the opposition PDP.

He called for greater political maturity and restraint among APC members when discussing the FCT minister, stressing that disagreements within the political space should not be allowed to damage relationships.

Wike has remained a prominent figure in Nigerian politics since leaving office as Rivers State governor and joining the Federal Executive Council as FCT minister.

Jibrin’s comments come amid continuing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians across different parties engaging in consultations and forming new alliances.

The lawmaker maintained that Wike should be treated with respect and that APC members should focus on strengthening their political relationships rather than engaging in public attacks against individuals who have supported the administration.
