OBIDIENT COORDINATOR SHARES OBI’S 2014 HANDOVER REPORT
The Anambra State debt controversy has taken a fresh turn after a coordinator of the Obidient Movement shared a copy of the 2014 handover report from the administration of former Governor Peter Obi.
The document, presented during the transition from Obi’s administration to that of Willie Obiano, contains details of the state’s financial position and outstanding obligations at the time of the handover.
According to the report, the financial summary included N27 billion in local investments, N26.5 billion in foreign-currency investments and N28.17 billion in certified balances belonging to the state and its ministries, departments and agencies.
The report also listed a N10 billion Federal Government-approved refund, while about N5 billion was identified as required to cover liabilities, including salaries, pensions, gratuities and certificates for projects that had already been executed.
The latest development comes amid renewed disagreements between Peter Obi and the Anambra State Government over claims concerning debts inherited by successive administrations. The competing claims have triggered public debate over the state’s financial position at the time Obi handed over power in 2014.
The release of the handover report has now placed the document at the centre of the debate, with Obi’s supporters pointing to its contents in response to claims about the former governor’s financial record, while the Anambra Government maintains its own position on the debts and liabilities inherited by subsequent administrations.
