PFIPC Scandal: CDHR Demands Gbajabiamila Step Aside Pending Probe

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has called for an independent investigation into allegations involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, urging him to step aside while the probe is conducted.

The rights group said its demand followed allegations linked to the reported N27 billion PFIPC scandal, stressing that an impartial investigation is necessary to establish the facts and maintain public confidence in government institutions.

In a statement, CDHR maintained that asking the Chief of Staff to temporarily vacate his position during the investigation would promote transparency, accountability and due process. The organisation added that public office holders facing serious allegations should cooperate fully with lawful investigations.

According to the group, an independent panel should be constituted to examine all claims surrounding the matter, ensuring that the investigation is free from political interference and conducted in accordance with the rule of law.

CDHR also urged relevant anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies to carry out a thorough and transparent inquiry, emphasizing that anyone found culpable should be held accountable in line with the law, while those cleared should have their reputations protected.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting accountability, good governance and respect for the rule of law, noting that credible investigations are essential to strengthening public trust in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
