inubu Signs ₦68.32trn 2026 Budget, Extends 2025 Spending Deadline

President has signed the ₦68.32 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, marking a major fiscal milestone for the country.

The President also approved an extension of the 2025 capital expenditure deadline to June 30, 2026, to allow for the completion of ongoing projects.

According to the Presidency, the budget is designed to boost economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance social services across key sectors.

Officials noted that the extension will help ensure that funds allocated for capital projects are fully utilised, reducing the risk of abandoned projects.

Economic analysts say the record-sized budget reflects the government’s ambitious spending plans but also raises concerns about revenue generation and debt sustainability.

They emphasized the need for efficient implementation, transparency, and accountability to achieve the desired outcomes.

The development comes as Nigeria continues efforts to stabilise its economy and drive long-term development.

Stakeholders have called for strict monitoring of budget execution to ensure that the benefits reach citizens across the country.
