Insecurity: Opposition Figures Urged to Offer Solutions, Not Just Criticism

Amid growing concerns over insecurity across Nigeria, stakeholders have called on opposition leaders and political figures to move beyond criticism and contribute practical solutions to the country’s security challenges.
The appeal comes as communities in several parts of the country continue to grapple with kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and other forms of violent crime, prompting renewed calls for collaborative efforts to address the crisis.
Observers argue that while holding the government accountable remains an important part of democratic governance, opposition figures should also present alternative policies and strategies capable of improving security and protecting citizens.
According to analysts, tackling insecurity requires a collective national response involving government institutions, political parties, security agencies, traditional leaders, and civil society organisations.
They stressed the need for constructive engagement on issues such as intelligence gathering, community policing, youth empowerment, and economic development, which are considered vital to addressing the root causes of insecurity.
The commentators further noted that meaningful policy debates and actionable proposals would better serve the public than partisan exchanges, particularly as citizens continue to demand effective solutions to persistent security threats.
As concerns over public safety remain high, stakeholders are urging all political actors to prioritise national interest and work towards sustainable measures that can restore peace and stability across the country.
