Alaafin to FG: Tackle Insecurity to Achieve Food Security
The Alaafin of Oyo has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts in addressing insecurity across the country, stressing that lasting food security cannot be achieved without ensuring the safety of farmers and agricultural communities.
The revered traditional ruler noted that persistent security challenges in many parts of Nigeria have continued to hinder farming activities, reduce agricultural productivity, and threaten the nation’s food supply chain.
According to the Alaafin, farmers are increasingly unable to access their farmlands due to fears of attacks, kidnappings, and other criminal activities. He warned that the situation could worsen food shortages and contribute to rising food prices if urgent measures are not taken.
The monarch urged the government and security agencies to strengthen surveillance, improve intelligence gathering, and provide adequate protection for farming communities to encourage increased agricultural production.
He emphasized that agriculture remains a critical sector for economic growth, employment generation, and national development, adding that safeguarding farmers is essential to achieving sustainable food security.
The Alaafin further called for collaboration among federal, state, and local authorities, as well as community leaders, to address security concerns affecting rural areas and agricultural hubs across the country.
His remarks come amid ongoing concerns over the impact of insecurity on Nigeria’s agricultural sector, with stakeholders repeatedly advocating stronger measures to protect farmers and boost food production nationwide.
