High Chiefs Disagree With Olubadan

Members of the Olubadan-in-Council on Monday dissociated themselves from the decision of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, to appoint Iswat Ameringun as the new Iyaloja of Ibadan.
The high chiefs also distanced themselves from the installation of a former Secretary to the State Government in Oyo State, Chief Olayiwola Olakojo, as the Mayegun of Ibadan.
The Olubadan recently dethroned Labake Lawal as the Iyaloja of Ibadan and installed Ameringun in her place on March 20, 2017.
But the former Iyaloja had challenged the decision at the state High Court, saying she was still in possession of the certificate issued to her as the Iyaloja.
She also prayed the court to stop Ameringun from parading herself as the Iyaloja, pending the judgment of the court. Joined as co-defendants in the suit were the monarch and the Olubadan-in-Council.
In a statement signed by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun, and the Balogun of Ibadan land, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin, both said the Olubadan used his power to install the new Iyaloja.
They said that when the matter came up for discussion at one of the meetings between the Olubadan and the chiefs, he was advised against it.
