A new report by UNESCO has revealed that women now outnumber men in higher education institutions worldwide.
According to the report, female enrolment in universities and other tertiary institutions has continued to rise across many regions, marking significant progress in global access to education for women.
Despite the improvement, UNESCO noted that major inequalities still exist in access, completion rates, and educational opportunities, particularly in low-income and conflict-affected countries.
The agency also highlighted persistent gender gaps in fields such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, where female participation remains relatively low.
Education experts say the findings underscore the need for policies that promote equal access, improve retention, and support women’s participation across all academic disciplines.
