Kano Cleric Urges Muhammadu Sanusi II, Aminu Ado Bayero to Avoid Parallel Sallah Durbar
An Islamic cleric in Kano has called on the rival emirs, Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero, to refrain from holding separate Sallah durbar celebrations in the state.
The cleric warned that organising parallel events could heighten tensions and potentially disrupt peace in Kano State during the festive period.
He urged both traditional leaders to place the interest of peace and unity above cultural or traditional considerations, stressing that maintaining harmony among residents should remain a top priority.
According to him, the Sallah durbar is a significant cultural and religious tradition in Kano, attracting large crowds and symbolising unity among the people. However, he noted that any rivalry surrounding the event could undermine its essence.
The cleric therefore appealed to stakeholders, including community leaders and authorities, to encourage dialogue and ensure that the celebrations proceed in a peaceful and orderly manner.
The appeal comes amid ongoing tensions surrounding the emirship tussle in Kano, which has led to concerns about the possibility of competing Sallah durbar processions in the ancient city.
