UEFA Fine Real Madrid After Fan’s Nazi Salute During Champions League Match

UEFA has fined Spanish football giants Real Madrid €15,000 following an incident in which a fan performed a Nazi salute during a UEFA Champions League match against Benfica.

European football’s governing body also ordered a partial stadium closure as part of the disciplinary measures taken against the club after the offensive gesture was spotted in the crowd during the match.

According to UEFA, the sanction requires Real Madrid to close a section of their stadium for their next European home fixture. However, the closure has been suspended for a probationary period, meaning it will only be enforced if a similar offence occurs again within the specified timeframe.

The disciplinary action comes after images and videos circulated online showing a supporter appearing to make the Nazi salute during the high-profile Champions League clash.

UEFA has strict regulations against racist behaviour, discriminatory gestures, and extremist symbols at football matches. The organization has repeatedly warned clubs that such incidents will lead to sanctions, including fines, stadium bans, and partial or full closures.

Real Madrid has not yet released a detailed public statement on the punishment but has consistently maintained a policy of zero tolerance toward racism and discriminatory conduct at its matches.

The incident adds to UEFA’s ongoing efforts to tackle racism and extremist behaviour in football stadiums across Europe, as the governing body continues to urge clubs and supporters to uphold the values of respect and inclusion in the sport.
