President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly attack on Nuku and Woro communities by suspected terrorists.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, reportedly claimed the lives of at least 75 residents.

Rauf Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed the casualty figure in a statement to TheCable, describing the incident as one of the deadliest attacks recorded in the area.

In response, the president directed the immediate establishment of a new military command in the affected axis to restore security and prevent further violence.

In a statement issued Wednesday night, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the newly deployed battalion will lead a special military operation codenamed “Operation Savannah Shield.”

According to Tinubu, the operation is aimed at “checkmating the barbaric terrorists and protecting defenceless communities” from further attacks.

The president expressed condolences to families of the victims and assured residents of the affected communities that the federal government is committed to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of lives and property.

Security sources said the deployment is expected to strengthen military presence in the area, improve response time, and disrupt the activities of armed groups operating around the Kwara–Kogi axis.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has pledged to work closely with federal security agencies to support ongoing operations and provide relief to affected communities.

The attack has heightened concerns over the spread of terrorist activities into North-Central states, previously considered relatively stable compared to other parts of the country.
