VETERAN NOLLYWOOD ACTOR OLU JACOBS DIES AT 84
Veteran Nollywood actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.
His death was announced by his family on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. His wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their son, Olusoji Jacobs, shared the announcement on social media, describing him as “The Lion of Lufodo.”
The family said Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, after a remarkable career spanning several decades across theatre, television and film. They also appealed to bloggers and social media influencers to respect the family’s privacy during the mourning period.
Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before beginning a career that included British television productions, international films and theatre.
He later became one of the most recognised figures in Nigeria’s film industry, featuring in numerous Nollywood productions and receiving several honours for his contribution to the arts, including the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) national honour in 2011.
Jacobs was married to fellow veteran actress Joke Silva, with whom he was also involved in the Lufodo Group and the development of performing arts in Nigeria. His death marks the passing of one of the most prominent figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
