TINUBU, ATIKU, OBI REDRAW ELECTORAL BATTLE LINES

President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi are intensifying their political activities as they seek to expand their support bases ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The three political camps are relying on their respective party structures, alliances and support groups as they seek to strengthen their positions beyond the areas where they recorded strong performances in the 2023 presidential election.
Tinubu is seeking another term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Atiku and Obi are operating from separate political platforms. The changing political landscape has also been shaped by the movement of prominent politicians and the emergence of new alliances.
The APC has continued efforts to strengthen its structures across the country, while opposition politicians have been holding consultations over possible alliances. However, differences over leadership, party structures and the presidential ticket remain factors in the opposition’s political calculations.
Obi has also continued to build his political structure and expand his support base, while Atiku has remained active in efforts to consolidate opposition support ahead of the election. Both camps are seeking to attract politicians and supporters from different parts of the country.
The 2023 presidential election remains an important reference point for the 2027 contest. With political realignments already underway, the major contenders are working to consolidate their existing support while making inroads into areas where their rivals performed strongly in the previous election.
As preparations for 2027 intensify, party structures, political alliances, grassroots mobilisation and regional support are expected to play significant roles in shaping the presidential contest.
