PETER OBI QUESTIONS COURT RULING NULLIFYING ATIKU’S ADC CANDIDACY

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed concern over the Federal High Court judgment in Abuja that nullified former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s emergence as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Obi described the development as shocking and unsettling, warning that the uncertainty surrounding opposition parties and their candidates could undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.

In a statement shared on his verified X account on Thursday, November 5, Obi said he did not question the authority of the judiciary to determine political disputes but was concerned about the circumstances surrounding the judgment.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, nullified the leadership of the ADC led by former Senate President David Mark and invalidated decisions taken under the disputed leadership, including the process that produced Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate.

Obi warned that developments capable of disrupting opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections could weaken democratic competition and limit voters’ choices.
