NONYE SOLUDO IS GODMOTHER TO OBI’S DAUGHTER, MARGARET OBI GODMOTHER TO SOLUDO’S DAUGHTER
The First Lady of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, has clarified the godparent relationship between her family and that of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, following remarks by the former governor that generated public interest.
The clarification came after a video circulated in which Obi said he and his wife, Margaret, were godparents to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s children. The statement prompted questions about the nature of the relationship between the two families.
According to a statement by Nonye Soludo’s media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, Peter Obi is not the godfather of any of Soludo’s children. He explained that the actual relationship involves the two families’ wives.
Ezeigwe stated that Nonye Soludo is the confirmation godmother to one of Peter Obi’s daughters, while Margaret Obi is the baptismal godmother to one of Governor Soludo’s daughters.
The clarification stressed that neither Peter Obi nor Chukwuma Soludo has served as a godparent to the other’s children. Ezeigwe suggested that Obi may have misspoken while discussing his relationship with Soludo.
Despite their political differences and recent disagreements over issues concerning Anambra State, the two families have maintained that their relationship remains cordial. Obi has also described Soludo as a close associate and respected elder brother.
The clarification has therefore drawn a distinction between the political relationship of the two men and the personal relationship between their families, while putting the record straight on the specific godparent roles.
