Nigerian Passport Ranks 95th Globally In 2024

The latest data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) shows that in the 2024 Henley Passport Index, the Nigerian passport is ranked 95th worldwide.

This ranking is based on the number of destinations Nigerian passport holders can visit without a prior visa.

The index evaluates visa-free access for 199 passports across 227 travel destinations. A passport scores 1 if no visa is needed for entry into a specific destination.

As per the report, individuals with Nigerian passports need visas for 181 destinations.

The Nigerian passport stands below its West African counterparts, with Ghana, Benin, and Togo securing ranks of 76th, 79th, and 83rd, respectively.

Contrastingly, South Africa holds the 53rd spot globally, enabling passport holders to visit 108 destinations without a visa. Japan, formerly second, now tops the list, granting its passport holders visa-free access to 194 countries.

Singapore, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain are joining Japan in possessing the world’s most powerful passports.
