N’ASSEMBLY TO TRANSMIT STATE POLICE BILL TO TINUBU TODAY

The National Assembly is set to transmit the proposed state police bill to President Bola Tinubu for assent following approval by 29 state Houses of Assembly.

The development marks a significant step in the proposed constitutional amendment aimed at allowing states to establish their own police forces.

The proposal is expected to give state governments greater responsibility for addressing security challenges within their jurisdictions, while raising questions about funding, accountability and safeguards against political interference.

If transmitted and eventually signed into law, the amendment would pave the way for the creation of state police, subject to the provisions of the revised Constitution.
