Metuh Commends Tinubu for Championing State Police

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, has praised President Bola Tinubu for championing the establishment of state police, describing the move as a courageous and forward-looking step toward addressing Nigeria’s growing security challenges.

Metuh said the President’s support for state policing demonstrates bold leadership and a willingness to pursue reforms capable of strengthening the country’s security architecture.

According to him, decentralizing policing would enhance intelligence gathering, improve community-based law enforcement, and enable quicker responses to security threats at the grassroots.

He noted that state police have long been advocated by security experts and stakeholders as a practical solution to the country’s complex security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, and communal violence.

Metuh urged political leaders and relevant stakeholders to work together in ensuring the successful implementation of the initiative, stressing that adequate legal safeguards and accountability mechanisms should accompany the reform.

He expressed optimism that the proposed state police system would complement existing federal security agencies and contribute to lasting peace, stability, and national development.

The remarks come amid ongoing national discussions on constitutional reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security framework and improving public safety across the country.
