Malami Challenges EFCC, Says Assets Legitimately Acquired

Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in court over allegations concerning his assets.

Malami argued that his properties and financial holdings are not proceeds of crime, insisting they were legitimately acquired over decades of legal practice and public service. He urged the court to dismiss claims linking his assets to unlawful activities.

The EFCC, however, is reportedly investigating the source of the assets as part of its broader anti-corruption efforts. The case is expected to test legal standards around asset declaration and proof of ownership.

Legal analysts say the outcome could have significant implications for ongoing anti-corruption prosecutions and the burden of proof required in such cases.

The court adjourned proceedings to a later date, with both parties expected to present further arguments and evidence.
