Iran Foreign Minister Arrives in Russia as US Talks Stall

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has arrived in Russia for high-level talks with President Vladimir Putin, as diplomatic negotiations with the United States remain deadlocked.

The visit comes amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington, with both sides unable to reach agreement on key issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security concerns. Planned talks have collapsed in recent days, further deepening the stalemate.

Araghchi’s trip is part of a broader diplomatic push involving regional actors such as Pakistan and Oman, aimed at reviving negotiations and easing hostilities. However, officials say major differences persist, particularly over sanctions, uranium enrichment, and military influence in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, tensions around the Strait of Hormuz have heightened global concerns. Iran’s actions in the vital waterway have disrupted oil shipments, contributing to rising energy prices and fears of wider economic fallout.

Analysts say the Moscow meeting could signal closer coordination between Iran and Russia as Tehran seeks diplomatic backing amid strained relations with Washington. The outcome of the talks is expected to influence the next phase of negotiations and regional stability.

Despite ongoing mediation efforts, prospects for a breakthrough remain uncertain, with both sides maintaining firm positions on core demands.
