FG Unveils Smart Highway Plan with CCTV, Solar Lights
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a new smart highway initiative aimed at improving road safety, security, and infrastructure nationwide.
The plan includes the deployment of CCTV surveillance systems, solar-powered street lighting, and the construction of more durable road networks designed to withstand heavy usage and harsh weather conditions.
Officials said the project will commence with the Bodo–Bonny road, a key infrastructure linking communities and boosting economic activities in the region.
According to the government, the smart features are intended to enhance real-time monitoring, reduce crime along highways, and improve visibility for motorists, particularly at night.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize Nigeria’s transport infrastructure, promote sustainability through renewable energy, and ensure safer travel for road users.
Stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that effective implementation will be critical to achieving the desired impact.
