Enugu Air, Airport Concession Key to $30bn GDP Target — SSG
The Secretary to the Enugu State Government (SSG) has identified the launch of Enugu Air and the concession of the state’s airport as strategic initiatives expected to drive the state’s ambition of achieving a $30 billion Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2031.
According to the SSG, the projects form part of the government’s broader economic transformation agenda aimed at attracting investment, boosting tourism, creating jobs, and strengthening Enugu’s position as a major commercial and transportation hub in the South-East.
He noted that the establishment of Enugu Air is expected to improve connectivity, facilitate business activities, and promote tourism by making the state more accessible to investors and visitors. The airline, he said, will complement ongoing efforts to modernize infrastructure and enhance economic competitiveness.
The airport concession initiative is also projected to improve operational efficiency, attract private-sector participation, and expand the capacity of the aviation sector to support economic growth.
The government believes that improved air transportation and airport services will stimulate trade, increase revenue generation, and encourage both domestic and foreign investments in key sectors of the economy.
The SSG further highlighted the administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses through infrastructure development, policy reforms, and strategic partnerships designed to accelerate growth.
Stakeholders have expressed optimism that the aviation projects, alongside other developmental initiatives, will contribute significantly to the state’s long-term economic objectives and help position Enugu as a preferred destination for commerce, tourism, and investment.
With the 2031 GDP target in focus, the state government says it remains committed to implementing policies and projects that will drive sustainable development and improve the living standards of residents.
