Court Grants Anambra Native Doctor Accused of Violating Security Law ₦50m Bail

An Anambra State High Court has granted bail to a native doctor, Ikechukwu Ezenagu, who is facing trial over allegations of violating the state’s Homeland Security Law.

The court approved bail in the sum of ₦50 million and outlined conditions that must be met before the defendant can enjoy the bail privilege. The case is part of ongoing efforts by authorities to enforce security regulations aimed at addressing criminal activities and maintaining public order across the state.

Ezenagu was arraigned on charges related to alleged violations of provisions of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law. Prosecutors argue that the accused engaged in activities contrary to the objectives of the legislation, while the defendant has maintained his innocence.

During proceedings, the defence team urged the court to grant bail, citing legal grounds and the constitutional presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The prosecution, however, sought strict conditions to ensure the defendant’s availability for trial.

In delivering its ruling, the court granted the bail application and directed that the defendant comply with all stipulated conditions pending the determination of the case.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to a later date for the continuation of trial proceedings.

The case has attracted public interest amid the Anambra State Government’s ongoing campaign against activities considered detrimental to security and public safety.

Legal observers note that the trial will provide an opportunity for the court to examine the allegations and determine the defendant’s culpability based on evidence presented by both parties.
