Anambra Advocates Tax Education to Boost Compliance, Development
The Anambra State Government has reiterated the importance of continuous public education on taxation as part of efforts to improve tax compliance and accelerate socio-economic development across the state.
State officials said greater awareness of the role of taxes in funding public services and infrastructure would encourage voluntary compliance among residents and businesses. They noted that informed taxpayers are more likely to fulfill their civic obligations when they understand how tax revenues contribute to development.
According to the government, tax education remains a critical tool for strengthening the state’s internally generated revenue base, which supports investments in key sectors such as education, healthcare, road infrastructure, and public welfare.
Authorities also emphasized the need for collaboration between tax administrators, community leaders, business groups, and other stakeholders to promote transparency and build public trust in the tax system. They argued that increased confidence in the management of public funds would further enhance compliance levels.
Experts at the event stressed that sustainable development requires a robust and efficient tax culture, urging citizens to view tax payment not merely as a legal obligation but as a contribution to the collective growth and progress of the state.
The renewed advocacy forms part of broader efforts by the Anambra State Government to expand revenue generation, strengthen fiscal sustainability, and finance critical development projects without excessive reliance on external funding.
