Akeredolu Claims The Police Have Failed Nigerians.

1 min read

Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, warned the federal government on Thursday that its failure to secure life and property in the country will soon force individuals to arm themselves in self-defense.

The warning was given by Akeredolu while delivering the keynote talk at a meeting of the Attorney-Generals of Nigeria’s 36 states, which was held in Lagos.

If the federal government fails to meet the police’s equipment needs, the governor has instructed them to “shut shop.”

The police, according to Akeredolu, have failed to fulfill their constitutional duty of protecting Nigerians.

The governor declared, “We shall carry arms very soon, Oga Malami (the AGF), there is no other way, the police have failed.”

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), spoke at the occasion, saying that state governors cannot continue to push for restructuring and state police when they are accountable for the current system’s compromise and incompetence.

State governors who have taken over local government allocations in their states, according to Malami, have no moral right to seek for reorganization.

The current disputes regarding the Paris/London Club loan returns could have been averted if the NGF/state governments and ALGON, which hired experts and contractors, had followed through on their promises.

“NGF and ALGON have not disputed hiring consultants and contractors on behalf of their states and local governments,” Malami said.
