Officer in Viral Photo Not Hisbah Commander’s Escort — Police

The Nigeria Police Force in Sokoto State has dismissed claims that an officer seen in a viral photo was escorting a Hisbah commander, describing the report as misleading.

In a statement, the command clarified that the image actually shows the governor’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC) during an official engagement in 2024, and not a security detail assigned to any Hisbah official. Police authorities said the misinformation had been widely circulated on social media, prompting the need for clarification.

“The officer in the photo is the governor’s ADC and was performing official duties at the time,” the statement noted.

The command urged the public to verify information before sharing, warning against the spread of false narratives that could create unnecessary tension.

The clarification comes amid growing concerns over misinformation online, with authorities reiterating their commitment to transparency and accurate public communication.
