$1tn economy impossible without good governance, says Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has stressed that Nigeria cannot achieve its ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy without strengthening corporate governance, institutional accountability, and transparency across both the public and private sectors.
Speaking at a governance-focused event, Shettima said sustainable economic growth depends on strong institutions rather than rhetoric or grandstanding. He noted that effective leadership, ethical business practices, and sound corporate governance are essential to attracting investment, boosting productivity, and driving long-term development.
The Vice-President emphasized that Nigeria must continue implementing reforms that promote accountability, improve the ease of doing business, and enhance investor confidence if the country is to meet its economic targets.
According to him, achieving a $1 trillion economy will require collaboration between government, the private sector, and regulatory institutions to build a resilient and competitive economy capable of creating jobs and improving living standards.
Shettima reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to institutional reforms, stating that good governance remains a critical pillar of Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda and sustainable national development.
