FG extends 2026 textbook ranking deadline to August 7

The Federal Government has extended the deadline for the 2026 National Textbook Ranking Exercise to August 7, giving publishers and authors additional time to submit educational materials for assessment.
According to the government, the extension is intended to allow more stakeholders to complete their submissions and ensure that a wider range of quality textbooks is considered for evaluation. The ranking exercise is aimed at identifying textbooks that meet national standards for use in Nigerian schools.
Education authorities said the assessment will focus on key criteria such as curriculum alignment, content accuracy, quality of presentation, and relevance to teaching and learning. Only books that satisfy the required standards will be recommended for use in schools.
The Federal Government encouraged publishers who are yet to complete their submissions to take advantage of the extended deadline, stressing that no further extension is expected after August 7.
Officials noted that the textbook ranking exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of educational resources, enhance learning outcomes, and strengthen Nigeria’s education system through the use of credible and well-reviewed instructional materials.
