YAYI THREATENS LAWSUIT AS HUNYE INSISTS ON EKITI ORIGIN
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has threatened legal action against Abayomi Hunye and a PDP chieftain over claims concerning his alleged Ekiti origin.
Adeola reportedly issued a 24-hour ultimatum, demanding that those making the claims provide evidence to support their allegations or face legal action.
The senator, who represents Ogun West in the National Assembly, rejected the claims about his origin, describing them as false and defamatory.
The controversy emerged during separate television appearances in which questions were raised about Adeola’s ancestry and his eligibility to contest the Ogun State governorship election.
Adeola has challenged those making the allegations to produce documentary evidence to substantiate their claims.
However, Hunye has reportedly welcomed the threat of a lawsuit, maintaining that he is prepared to defend his position in court.
Hunye insisted that Adeola’s alleged connection to Ekiti State was a matter that could be established through documentary evidence. He also maintained that questions surrounding the background and eligibility of political candidates are matters of legitimate public interest.
The dispute comes as political activities intensify in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with aspirants and political parties already positioning themselves for the contest.
Both sides have now indicated their readiness to have the matter subjected to legal scrutiny if the disagreement proceeds to court.
The allegations regarding Adeola’s origin remain disputed, with the senator rejecting the claims while Hunye continues to stand by his position.
