IG Deploys DIGs, Orders Crackdown on Unregistered Vehicles Nationwide

Abuja – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has ordered an immediate nationwide crackdown on unregistered vehicles as part of efforts to strengthen security, combat crime, and improve public safety across the country.
In a directive issued to police commands nationwide, the IGP also announced the deployment of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to various geopolitical zones to enhance supervision, coordination, and operational efficiency in tackling security challenges.
According to police authorities, the operation is aimed at identifying and impounding vehicles operating without proper registration, as such vehicles are often used in criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of organized crime.
The police leadership emphasized that vehicle registration remains a critical component of law enforcement and national security, enabling authorities to track vehicle ownership and investigate criminal activities effectively.
Security experts have welcomed the move, noting that the presence of senior police officers across the geopolitical zones could improve intelligence gathering and strengthen collaboration among security agencies.
A statement from the Force Headquarters urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles are duly registered and all necessary documentation is up to date to avoid sanctions during the enforcement exercise.
The police further assured members of the public that the operation would be conducted professionally and in accordance with the law, while respecting the rights of citizens.
The nationwide enforcement drive is expected to commence immediately, with police commands directed to intensify surveillance and carry out routine checks on vehicles across major highways, urban centres, and border communities.
