FG Begins Payment of Doctors’ Arrears
The Federal Government has commenced the payment of salary arrears owed to doctors following the implementation of the CONMESS salary structure review.
Members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have confirmed receipt of the payments, describing the development as a positive step toward resolving long-standing welfare concerns.
The arrears stem from adjustments under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), which had previously led to disputes between the government and medical practitioners.
Health sector stakeholders say the payments are expected to ease tensions and improve morale among doctors, many of whom had expressed frustration over delays.
The government reiterated its commitment to addressing outstanding issues in the health sector and ensuring better working conditions for medical personnel.
Observers note that timely payment of entitlements is crucial to maintaining stability in the healthcare system and preventing disruptions to services.
The development has been welcomed as a move that could strengthen trust between the government and healthcare workers while supporting improved service delivery nationwide.
