Tinubu Confirms Killing of ISIS Leader in Joint Nigeria-US Military Operation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the killing of a senior ISIS commander, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, during a joint military operation carried out by Nigerian and United States forces in the Lake Chad Basin.
According to the President, the operation was part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts aimed at dismantling extremist networks and restoring security across the region. He described the development as a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
Tinubu commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and their international partners for their collaboration, professionalism, and commitment to tackling insurgency and violent extremism. He said the successful operation demonstrates the growing effectiveness of regional and global security cooperation.
Security sources said the operation targeted terrorist hideouts within the Lake Chad area, a region that has witnessed years of insurgent activities linked to ISIS and other extremist groups.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and ensuring that terrorist groups have no safe haven within Nigeria’s borders.
He also assured citizens that the government would continue to invest in intelligence gathering, military operations, and strategic partnerships to protect lives and maintain peace across the country.
