UCL: Yamal Penalty Denies Newcastle First-Leg Win Over Barcelona

Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal scored a late penalty to rescue a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 clash.

Newcastle had taken the lead earlier in the match through Harvey Barnes, whose strike put the Premier League side ahead and on course for a valuable away victory.

However, Barcelona mounted late pressure and were awarded a penalty in the closing stages after a foul in the box. Yamal stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to level the score.

The equaliser ensured Barcelona avoided defeat at home while leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of the second leg.

Both teams will now turn their attention to the decisive return fixture, where a place in the Champions League quarter-finals will be at stake.
