Court Acquits Abba Kyari of Asset Non-Declaration Charges
Abuja, Nigeria — A Federal High Court has acquitted suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari of charges relating to alleged non-declaration of assets.
The charges were filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), which accused Kyari of failing to properly declare certain assets as required by law. However, in its ruling, the court held that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the claims.
The presiding judge stated that the evidence presented did not convincingly establish that the suspended police officer deliberately concealed or failed to declare assets. As a result, the court dismissed the charge.
Kyari, once a prominent figure in Nigeria’s police force, has faced multiple legal battles in recent years, including separate allegations linked to drug trafficking and professional misconduct. The asset non-declaration case was one of several proceedings brought against him following his suspension.
Legal analysts say the acquittal does not automatically resolve other pending matters involving the former police chief, as those cases remain before the courts.
The NDLEA has not yet indicated whether it will appeal the ruling.
The judgment marks a significant development in the ongoing legal challenges surrounding Kyari’s career and reputation.
