Ogun Governor Approves Recruitment of 1,000 New Amotekun Operatives

Abeokuta, March 2, 2026 — The Ogun State Government has approved the recruitment of 1,000 additional operatives into the state’s Amotekun Corps as part of efforts to strengthen security and safeguard communities across the state.

The approval, announced by state officials on Monday, is aimed at improving local security operations, supporting conventional security agencies, and addressing rising concerns over criminal activities in rural and urban areas.

According to the government, the new recruitment drive will expand the operational capacity of the Ogun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, enabling faster response to security threats and improved community policing.

A statement from the state government noted that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property while enhancing collaboration between local security outfits and federal law enforcement agencies.

Officials explained that the recruitment process will prioritize qualified indigenes with strong knowledge of local communities, adding that successful candidates will undergo comprehensive training in intelligence gathering, conflict management, and community engagement before deployment.

The government also emphasized that the expansion of the corps is part of a broader security strategy designed to curb kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of criminality across Ogun State.

Residents and community leaders have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that increased security presence will help deter crime and improve public safety, particularly in vulnerable areas.

Authorities said further details regarding application procedures and recruitment timelines will be released in the coming weeks, urging interested applicants to follow official government channels for updates.

The Amotekun Corps, established by South-West states to complement existing security agencies, continues to play a key role in grassroots security and intelligence operations across the region.
