Months After Job Offers, CBN Fails to Deploy 60 Recruits

MontAbout 60 Nigerians are reportedly facing growing uncertainty and financial distress following prolonged delays by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in deploying them months after issuing formal job offers.

The affected individuals were offered employment by the apex bank in 2023 and, according to multiple sources, resigned from their previous jobs in anticipation of resumption. However, more than a year later, they are yet to be formally deployed or assigned duties by the CBN.

Some of the recruits, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they have made repeated attempts to get clarification from the bank but have received no definite timeline for resumption.

“We were issued offer letters and completed all required documentation, including medicals and background checks. Since then, we have been kept waiting with no clear communication,” one of the recruits said.

The prolonged delay, they explained, has left many of them unemployed and struggling to meet basic financial obligations, including rent, family responsibilities, and loan repayments.

Several of the affected recruits expressed concern that the uncertainty has taken a toll on their mental well-being, adding that they trusted the credibility of the CBN as a government institution before resigning from their former places of employment.

Industry analysts say the situation raises questions about recruitment planning and internal coordination at the apex bank, noting that delayed onboarding after formal job offers can have serious socio-economic consequences.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain an official response from the Central Bank of Nigeria on the matter were unsuccessful. The bank has also not issued any public statement addressing the status of the affected recruits.

The development has sparked calls for the CBN to urgently clarify the situation and either proceed with deployment or formally communicate its position to the affected individuals to alleviate their hardship.
