Dangote Petitions EFCC Over Alleged Corruption by Farouk Ahmed After Withdrawing ICPC Case
Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate alleged acts of corruption by Farouk Ahmed, former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
In the petition, Dangote accused Ahmed of abuse of office, corrupt enrichment and living beyond his legitimate means, urging the anti-graft agency to conduct a thorough investigation into his tenure at the regulatory authority.
The EFCC petition comes weeks after Dangote withdrew a similar complaint earlier submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). In December 2025, Dangote, through his lawyer Ogwu Onoja, had petitioned the ICPC alleging “corruption and financial impropriety” against the former NMDPRA boss.
Sources familiar with the development said the decision to approach the EFCC was informed by the nature of the allegations, which Dangote believes fall squarely within the commission’s mandate to investigate economic and financial crimes.
While details of the alleged misconduct were not fully disclosed, the petition reportedly called on the EFCC to scrutinise Ahmed’s assets, lifestyle and official actions while in office.
As of the time of filing this report, Farouk Ahmed has not publicly responded to the allegations. The EFCC is also yet to issue an official statement confirming receipt of the petition or outlining its next steps.
The development has further drawn public attention to regulatory oversight and accountability within Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
