Man Killed By Hudloms While He Was At The Gas Station Trying To Get Fuel
3 min readWhile vehicles queued to buy fuel at Total Petrol Station on Kano Street, in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State, some hoodlums stormed the area, dragged away a man, identified only as Sijuade, and slit his throat.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Sijuade, an upholstery artisan, was stabbed in the eyes before the hoodlums killed him.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred on Friday at about 6am.
It was gathered that Sijuade had come with some friends to the filling station to buy fuel in jerrycans. The hoodlums, however, killed him.
It was learnt that two days after the killing, some gunmen on Sunday stormed Ondo Street by Cemetery Junction, waylaid another young man, identified only as Toheeb, and shot him dead.
The attack was said to have caused panic in the area, forcing residents to lock their doors.
Residents said the two killings were reported at the Denton Police Division, adding that the attackers had yet to be arrested.
When our correspondent visited Kano Street on Monday, he learnt that Sijuade’s corpse had been deposited by the police in a morgue.
A resident on Coates Street, who gave his name as Oyela Sodiq, said the deceased’s elder brother, identified only as Ibikunle, rushed him to a hospital where the youth was confirmed dead.
Sodiq added that Sijuade, although a street boy, was a peace-loving resident, who had not had an altercation with any hoodlum in the past.
He said, “It was around 6am on Friday. The guy was well known, and as a street boy, he used his influence to help motorists get fuel. The hoodlums, who might have been on a reprisal, bundled him out of the station.
“After a few metres, they began to stab him in the head before they cut his throat. When people saw the young man lying in a pool of blood, they called his elder brother.
“His brother brought a tricycle and they rushed him to a hospital. Sadly, he did not survive it. The matter was reported to the police at Denton. No one was arrested on that day.”
When PUNCH Metro got to Ondo Street by Cemetery junction, a witness, Sikiru Ibrahim, said the gunmen who killed Toheeb on Sunday came in a car.
Ibrahim added that some shop owners and residents were also injured by stray bullets and were receiving treatment in a hospital.
He said, “Toheeb’s mother sells bean cake (akara) at Coates Junction. He was a well known young man in the area. On Sunday, around 10pm, he was sitting down with his friends at a shop when a car drove towards them, and some people opened fire on them.
“While others sustained bullet injuries, Toheeb died. Everyone fled into their houses. The operation happened within minutes.
“The police later came to remove the corpse. The mother had not been stable since that incident.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the deaths.
She added that the police had intensified patrols in the area while efforts were on to nab the killers.
She said, “I confirm a reprisal attack that led to the loss of two lives. Right now, the area is calm.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered an intense patrol of the area. Effort is also on to track the fleeing suspects.”
