The First Class Oba stated that he organized the conference in response to the current condition of insecurity in the country in order to raise security awareness among the people in his area.
“We need to be more security cautious,” he added, explaining why he convened the conference.
“I completely believe that Amotekun should be armed. This is due to the fact that they are the ones that are closest to the people.
“And because we have armed bandits among the grassroots, the Amotekun must be well-equipped to meet whatever threat they face.”
“Whatever is within my domain is also my concern, that is why we support the introduction of community policing and that’s why we have been working together with the security agencies to ensure that our domain is well taken care of in terms of security challenges.”
Also speaking at the summit, Sango Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, Muhammed Sanni, cautioned the people against raising false alarm.
Sanni said the command had received series of information, claiming that some herdsmen were trying to invade a community in the area, but, it was later found out to be false.
The Area Commander said, “Just last week, we received an information that some Fulani people were trying to invade a community. I quickly dispatched a team of my intelligence unit, they went there, after all said and done, they came back, but, behold they were able to discover that there was a man, who is a Yoruba man who rears goats and cow.
“This man is into animal business. He travelled and brought them to the community for the coming Ileya festival, so, the people without finding the fact raised the alarm. When we interviewed the man, he told us he bought the animals for sale.
There had been no breach of peace, therefore there was nothing to be concerned about. Then we’re focusing our attention on the man and the neighborhood.”
