WE ARE NOT AGAINST STUDENTS’ UNIONISM BUT…, ILARO POLY RECTOR CAUTIONS STUDENTS

The Rector of  Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro Architect Olusegun Aluko has declared that the school management is not against students’ unionism in the institution.

Aluko made this statement during the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected student union (S.U.) and Students Representative Council (S.R.C.) executives of the institution.

According to him, he said, “I want to correct one impression, the management is not against students’ unionism because it is the only avenue whereby we can listen to your problems and proffer solutions to it, he said.

“So we encourage our students to be politically conscious to participate in students’ politics because some of you might go out and take politics as your main job, but at now you had a very good starting point”

Aluko who addressed himself as the grandfather of all the students stated further that, most of the great people they are seeing today started just like the students.

However, he said student union is one thing that can bring up the students and as well bring them down.

“We have introduced some things, that is why we asked for your Cumulative Grade Points (CGPA)    before you can contest, so that we know that mediocres who are   not ready to leave the campus are not leading you, so that the foolish ones are not leading the wise because I know none of you had anything less than lower credit, he said’

He as well addressed the students’ executive not to defeat their primary aim, why they are in the institution.

The Den Directorate of Students Affairs Mrs. I.K. Ogunfayo congratulated the executives for being found worthy to represent the students’ populace of the institution.

The Don who is an Engineer said, “I want to assure you that the Directorate is ready for your welfare and we are ready to work with you, so that we will guide you to have a successful tenure”. Mrs. Ogunfayo assured the Students.

Public Relation Office (P.R.O) of the institution, Mr. Sola Abiala also advised the executives to have the carrot and not the caned during their tenure in the institution.
