A new report by UNESCO has ranked Nigeria as the third-largest source of international students globally.
According to the report, Nigerian students accounted for about five percent of global outbound student mobility in 2023, reflecting the growing number of citizens seeking education opportunities abroad.
The report highlighted increasing demand for quality education, international exposure, and better academic opportunities as key factors driving the trend.
Countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, and other European nations remain among the top destinations for Nigerian students.
Education analysts say the development underscores the need for stronger investment in Nigeria’s education sector to reduce the increasing migration of students to foreign institutions.
