The story of Super Eagles’ midfielder, Nnamdi Oduamadi could be summarized as ‘grass to grace.” In case you don’t know, the lanky player wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Rather, he had to pass through thick and thin before fortunes eventually smiled on him courtesy his chosen career-soccer.
Oduamadi grew up in Coker, a Lagos suburb that is somehow dominated by the low class. His parents were poor, but they could afford to send him to school up till his secondary class.
At 7-year -old, young Oduamadi kick-started his football career on the rough pitch of Lagos without knowing he had just started what will transform his family. But as the saying goes, ‘no pain no gain.’ Oduamadi many times suffered on the pitch; there were times he would have no money to buy a football kit or even water to drink, but he kept his head high. At last when he was 17, Oduamadi had the opportunity of traveling to Italy in a bid to join one of the leading football clubs in the world, AC Milan. But before his departure, he had a problem-his airplane ticket fee. But courtesy his late elder brother, Chigozie, he was able to raise the funds. And like they say, the rest is history. But in all, what has continued to hurt the player the most is that his brother didn’t wait to reap from what he sow. And this we heard always break him down anytime he remembers the untimely death of his brother.
