Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA in Kebbi State, on Thursday, foiled a bandits’ raid, neutralised one of the attackers and recovered large herds of rustled cows in Indarai forest, Zugu District.
The development was disclosed in a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama via his X handles.
According to the report, the incident occurred on September 18 at about 5:30 p.m. when armed bandits in large numbers invaded Indarai forest and rustled cows belonging to members of the Zugu community.
Troops, in collaboration with vigilante groups and other security forces, engaged the bandits in a gun battle, killing one of them and recovering the stolen cattle.
However, a vigilante member identified as Nura Tela sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter and later died on the way to the hospital.
The bandits, who were reportedly overpowered, fled into neighbouring Zamfara State with some of their injured members.
Authorities have since taken custody of the recovered cows for safe keeping, while security forces continue intensive patrols in the area to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
