Ogun-Osun River Basin Provides Over 400 Solar-Powered Boreholes, 16 Tractors
Abeokuta, Nigeria – The Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA) has provided more than 400 solar-powered boreholes and 16 tractors to communities and farmers within its coverage area, according to the agency’s Managing Director.
The intervention is part of ongoing efforts to improve access to clean water and enhance agricultural productivity across the region.
Speaking on the achievements, the Managing Director said the solar-powered boreholes have significantly improved water supply in underserved communities, while the tractors have supported farmers by boosting mechanized farming and increasing food production.
He noted that the projects align with the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening food security, rural development, and sustainable access to potable water.
According to the authority, the deployment of solar-powered infrastructure has reduced reliance on conventional energy sources, ensuring more reliable and environmentally friendly water supply systems.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to expanding critical infrastructure and supporting agricultural development initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and driving economic growth in communities across the Ogun-Osun River Basin.
Stakeholders have commended the interventions, describing them as important steps toward addressing water challenges and enhancing agricultural output in the region.
