OAUTH Doctors Issue Strike Notice Over Unmet Demands

Resident doctors at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, have issued a strike notice, warning that they may embark on industrial action from June 19 if their outstanding demands are not addressed.

The doctors cited concerns over welfare issues, delayed upgrades, and other unresolved matters affecting their working conditions and professional development. They argued that the challenges have persisted despite previous engagements with relevant authorities.

According to representatives of the resident doctors, the proposed strike is intended to draw attention to issues they believe are critical to the effective delivery of healthcare services and the well-being of medical personnel within the institution.

The association expressed disappointment over what it described as the slow pace of addressing its grievances, noting that repeated appeals and negotiations have yet to produce satisfactory outcomes.

Among the key concerns raised are delays in the implementation of approved upgrades, welfare-related matters, and other administrative issues that the doctors say have negatively impacted morale and productivity.

The doctors called on the hospital management and relevant government agencies to urgently intervene and resolve the outstanding issues to avert disruptions to healthcare services.

Meanwhile, stakeholders in the health sector have urged both parties to continue dialogue and seek an amicable resolution in the interest of patients and the broader healthcare system.

If no agreement is reached before the expiration of the notice, the resident doctors may proceed with the planned industrial action, potentially affecting medical services at the tertiary health institution.
