Nulge President Elect Pledges LG Autonomy

The new President elect of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Mr Ambali Olatunji, has vowed to ensure the implementation of autonomy for local government workers.
He also pledged to ensure the successful passage of the local government scheme of service for workers at the grass roots.
Olatunji stated this during the inauguration of the new NULGE executive council members at the headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Olatunji’s emergence as NULGE leader was sequel to the passage of the incumbent president, Ibrahim Khaleel, a few weeks ago.
He said, “We shall pursue vigorously from where our late leader stopped on the issue of local government autonomy and also ensure the successful passage of the Local Government Scheme of Service.”
The NULGE president noted that the union had weathered many storms to arrive at this threshold, promising to run an inclusive administration.
Meanwhile, the Association of Local Government of Nigeria has disassociated itself from a meeting reportedly convened by “unauthorised persons” in Abuja on Wednesday.
The association described the meeting as “illegal and should be disregarded by its members nationwide and the members of the public.”
A faction of the association led by the Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Lagos State, Mr Kolade Alabi, reportedly convened the meeting where he was returned as the factional President of ALGON but the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of the association, Abdullahi Maje, said, “Its leadership did not approve of such meeting and should be ignored.”
